Get Ready for the 2026 EEL Treasure Coin Hunt!
Adventure is calling! The Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program is excited to announce the 7th Annual Treasure Coin Hunt—and this year’s featured coin celebrates one of our most fascinating nighttime neighbors: the Florida Flying Squirrel!
Did you know? The Florida Flying Squirrel doesn’t actually “fly”—it glides gracefully from tree to tree using a special membrane called a patagium. These small, nocturnal mammals are rarely seen, but they play an important role in maintaining healthy forest ecosystems by spreading seeds and fungi.
In the coming months, limited-edition coins will be carefully hidden within select Brevard County nature sanctuaries. Clues will be posted right here on our page—so keep your eyes open and your sense of adventure ready!
